Cement Terrazzo

Cement Terrazzo Tiles

Frequently Asked Question

Laying Procedure

1. It is essential that the sub-layer bedding is prepared in advance with proper slope. Consult an architect or contractor while setting the floor levels.

2. The bedding should be of hard surface of minimum 25-mm thickness with cement and sand mortar in the ratio 1 :4. For heavy-duty application the cement ratio is to be increased.

3. The laying of the tiles can be started only after the bedding surface is sufficiently hard. A thick paste of cement slurry is to be spread over the mortar bed before the tiles are laid. Care should be taken that the adjacent tile edges are placed touching each other.

4. Any base mortar cement that squeezes through the joints should be cleaned immediately and not allowed to settle on the tile surface.

5. Fill in the joints with cement grout mixed with colour matching the colour of the chequered tiles.

6. Allow the tiles to set firmly for a few days before use.

The above procedure is also applicable for laying Rockard Designer tiles of 25mm thickness.

Instructions for laying Nitco Solid Rock Pavers

The area to be covered should be demarcated in advance. Consult an architect or a contractor while setting the floor levels.

Curbstones or any other suitable block is to be laid at the peripheral end to prated tiles from shifting or breaking at the edges.

If is essential that the sub-layer is strong enough to take on the desired load.
Laying Procedure

1. Before setting Nitco pavers, make sure a bedding of sand or stone powder of not less than 25 mm thickness is evenly spread.

2. Start laying the Pavers from one end keeping a gap of 1 to 2 mm in between pavers.

3. Once the pavers are laid, the void space in between pavers should be filled with sand or stone powder.

4. Since pavers come in different shapes and sizes, it is essential that along the periphery, the pavers are cemented or packed well to avoid shifting at the edges.

5. Now, the top surface of the floor is to be vibrated with a surface vibrator.

6. Excess sand is to be removed and the new floor is ready for use.
Note: Laying of the pavers should preferably be completed in one go. For larger areas, where laying continues for longer periods, the last row of pavers is to be protected with weak mortar, which can be dismantled the next day before starting work.
